On Saturday July 1st at 2 pm the David M. Hunt Library will host “Building Relationships with Indigenous Communities” a talk with Lydia Downs, Collections Assistant and Deaccession Specialist at Mystic Seaport Museum. Lydia joined the team at the Seaport in the summer of 2022 as an intern in their Reimagining New England Histories project before officially being hired in October. Her intern project focused on sharing more inclusive histories of the Seaport including stories from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. As part of that project Lydia developed a Three Sisters Garden in collaboration with the Pequot and Narragansett Tribal Nations, and continues to work on building relationships between the local BIPOC communities and the Seaport.
